Why does my light bulb blink?
Why does my light bulb blink?
My bulb is flashing, is this normal?
Flashing light bulbs are a problem that many of us know or
have known. In itself, the problem can be quickly resolved and is often not dramatic
but it is an unprecedented hindrance to quality lighting. Blinking lights often
remind us of horror movies, but this is a daily problem for many homes. The
basic principle of electricity is to make our homes safer and more enjoyable.
The blinking lamps are synonymous with the opposite.
What can I do?
When we face this problem, the first thing to do is to check
the current bulb. One of the solutions may be to change its old lamp, for an
LED lamp for example. The LED bulbs are available in all shapes and sizes, you
will not have trouble finding one that suits you best. Before changing your
bulb, make sure the power is off and the bulb is cool. If your lamp is still
flashing after that, the problem has another origin.
What are the other possibilities?
In most cases, the blinking is due to a simple fluctuation
of the voltage that powers the bulb, but there are other explanations for this
phenomenon:
The type of bulb.
We know that fluorescent lights are more likely to flash than other types of
lamps. Indeed, the temperature, the age of the bulb or the sequences of
ignitions of this bulb will increase the probability that your lamp flashes.
If your fluorescent tube blinks a bit when you turn it on,
that's normal. This is the normal ignition procedure for a fluorescent fixture.
However, there are alternatives for almost all fluorescent products. To learn
more, check out our offer of CFL LED bulbs, LED tubes and LED panels.
The variations.
Varying (or dimming)
the intensity of a lamp may cause blinking. Indeed, most drives are built for
heavy electrical loads. If they are combined with low voltage LED bulbs, this
may cause flashes or flashing of your lamp. The best is to check the
compatibility of your equipment before buying new fixtures.
Bad connections.
Blinking may be due to a bad connection in your fixture or
installation.
If you are not sure where the problem is coming from, we
recommend that you seek the advice of a professional in order to fix it
properly.
